Library 2.0 Makeover for WCLS

Project Proposal

Mock ups

Needs Assessment

My current place of employment is a public library that consists of 9 branchs, bookmobile, jail/homebound + our website.  We are primarily rural, one of our branches is only accessibly via ferry and another is so far off the beaton path you have to go through Canada to get to it.  We are a little spread out.  Because of our geographical disparity I would like to see us incorporate more communication tools into our current intranet (an upgrade is needed in that area - but the technical nature of that is beyond the scope of this project).  I would also like to see us develop a few more tools to aid in communicating with/from our patrons.  This wiki is set up so that a few of these tools can be demonstrated with mock-ups, the Project Proposal will give more detail into the reasoning behind choosing the particular tools that were chosen.  When deciding which web2.0 tools to highlight and focus on, I tried to keep some things in mind such as organization/job needs and learner needs.  Admitedly sometimes the only answer to why we should use these tools is 'more/better communication options', but understanding that for the most part these tools are free of cost, are of little time commitment to maintain, and optional for participation, I feel that they would be both wise and felicitatious to attempt to incorporate them into our workplace.
